Said to be named after Tullamareena, a senior member of the Wurundjeri tribe, Tullamarine is both a residential and industrial area with a population of around 7,000 people. The suburb experienced rapid growth during the 1960s and 1970s, aided by the opening of Melbourne Airport in 1970.
Tullamarine is quite flat and exposed to the hot northerly winds of Melbourne’s summer, as well as cold southerly winds in winter.
Young couples and families are attracted to the area’s recent housing estates and light industry. Local parks include Hedger Reserve, Leo Dineen Reserve, Trade Park Reserve and Tullamarine Reserve. There is one school, the Tullamarine Public Hall and five public bus routes that operate throughout the area. Both Broadmeadows and Jacana railway stations on the Craigieburn line are close by.
Access to the freeway and the city is effortless, with the area close to amenities sought after for modern living.
