A number of historical grand Victorian homes grace the streets of the small township of Mount Macedon whilst a hotel, general store, a church and several plant nurseries service the needs of locals.
Located 64km north-west of Melbourne, much of Mount Macedon is surrounded by The Macedon Regional Park. The most popular attraction in the area is the Memorial Cross Reserve, the most significant war memorial in Victoria after the Shrine of Remembrance. It includes picnic and BBQ areas and the Top of the Range Tearooms. The 21 metre tall Memorial Cross, erected to honour those Australians who lost their lives in wars, offers beautiful views from several look out points.
Located near the start of Cameron Drive, the Camels Hump is the highest point in the Macedon Ranges whilst several walking tracks attract locals and tourists. The most scenic walking track is the steep 500 metre path that ascends to the peak offering panoramic views to the north and west.span>
Sanatorium Lake is accessed via Lions Head Road which passes through the attractive Days Picnic Ground and then onto Sanatorium Lake. An Eco-Tourism Walking Trail takes visitors to an information shelter and the adjacent lake. Other picnic areas and walking trails are located near the lake.
Popular Stanley Park contains a native grassland area, diverse vegetation, several picnic areas and Turitable Creek, which runs through the park.
