Originally a stopping place on the road to the Bendigo goldfields, the town grew in the 1870s and 1880s, with the Diggers Rest Hotel becoming a key facility for travellers at the time.
The Holden Flora and Fauna Reserve is one of three large local reserves popular with locals for a wildlife spotting and a leisurely stroll whilst the Animal Land Children’s Farm allows children the opportunity to interact with farm animals.
The Sunbury line offers residents regular transport options into the city via Diggers Rest Railway Station. The Diggers Rest Football Club (the Burras) is part of the Riddell District Football League whilst the Diggers Rest Primary School host annual events popular with the wider community.
